About the role

Lead the Health Safety and Environment function for a key division of this respected well known heavy industry business. This position is a key strategic partnership role that will support the leadership team in enhancing the capability of frontline managers, employees and contractors in both operations and projects. You will lead the collaboration and promote the required behaviours that underpin the organisations commitment to safety and deliver a consistent leadership approach that enables ownership and accountability at all levels.
Key focus
  • Provide strategic direction and advice to the business to ensure effective delivery of the HSE strategy in a sustainable manner that enables improvements in productivity, drives efficiency and improves risk management practices
  • Lead a team of safety professionals within their relevant areas, providing guidance, support and mentoring to ensure a consistent and high quality level of service to the frontline workforce, frontline managers and divisional leadership teams.
  • Drive safety outcomes by leading, coaching and influencing divisional leadership teams, frontline managers, employees and contractors in the application of safety risk management practice, processes and tools in the workplace and to embed accountability for safety with frontline managers by coaching and mentoring managers in continuous improvement in safety outcomes and performance.
  • Assist in the development and execution of an effective and efficient Health and Safety management system across the organisation including oversight of contractor safety management and application of management system
  • Monitor divisional safety performance across their locations and provide input to drive continuous improvement activities.
Your Leadership Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or related area and/or Engineering qualification
  • Significant experience in managing safety in high risk industries
  • Proven experience in working with and influencing across all levels of the organisation including Senior Leaders.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety concepts, theories and practices including current and progressive safety and leadership theory, interpretation and analysis of incident trending reports cross multi-site complex businesses
  • High level interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation. The proven ability to present to large groups and facilitate training as required.
